….. Till the pips squeak

I suppose none of us should be surprised to hear a Liberal  advocating punitive tax levels on “the wealthy”. When that Liberal is Nick Clegg who clearly feels the avenging hand of his party sharpening the knives, we might even feel sorry for him if he were not such a dreadful and typical Liberal.

Nick Clegg is clearly clutching at tiny straws as his support in his party ebbs away.   Like so many Liberal policies, this will play with people on low or middle incomes who are being trained by the media and some politicians to resent financial success.

An American, seeing a fellow citizen driving a large Cadillac will say “I might own one of those one day if I work hard and am lucky”.  In the UK, I am afraid the more likely response is “it is not fair; I have not got one of those cars”.  We seem to have succumbed as a nation to the politics of envy and I think that is sad and self destructive.
