A number of us – blog writers and web site authors – have enjoyed the attention recently of someone calling himself David Greatworth. He has taken some interest in Adderbury village matters and has responded on Cherwell’s web site to an Adderbury planning application.
Now the interesting thing about David Greatworth is that he does not seem to live in Addderbury and he is certainly not listed on the electoral roll. When he made a comment on a Cherwell planning application, he gave his address as c/o a property in Bodicote but, once again, there is no David Greatworth listed in this road or anywhere in Bodicote.
So the mystery remains why someone calling himself David Greatworth should take such an interest in Adderbury village when he does not live here or, it would seem, anywhere near here.
Of course, anyone is entitled to respond to blogs, write on web sites and comment on planning applications but, when they do not seem to have a local connection and will not admit to their address anywhere, one has to wonder whether David Greatworth actually exists or is simply a nom de guerre of someone who wishes to put himself about.
It is not unknown for false news to be spread under entirely false identities and I am beginning to wonder if the choice of a name like Greatworth is a mere reflection of an anonymous individual’s own perception of his worth? Perhaps we shall never know!
