I see Thames Valley Police want to push up the Council Tax. I have voted NO in their consultation exercise which did not seek to find out my reasons so I will set them out here. I would support an increase if I thought it would be funding the right priorities. In my view these are to increase activity in dealing with burglary, anti-social behaviour and violence and cutting back on the pursuit of so-called “hate crime” and persecuting the poor old motorist.
We need to see more policemen and women on our streets – including village streets – and less sitting behind computer screens investigating allegations of “hate” or sitting outside Christopher Rawlins school with a speed camera waiting for the hapless motorist who fails to spot the road has a daft 30mph speed limit on it when it feels like a normal country road; an easy cash cow for police funds! No, I have not been caught! I have learned to look out for their very regular visits to this spot.
